Christian Rasmussen Claims First IndyCar Victory at Milwaukee Mile

IndyCar fans witnessed a thrilling race at the historic Milwaukee Mile as Christian Rasmussen stormed from seventh to first to secure his maiden IndyCar victory. The Danish driver pulled off a late-race charge on fresh tires, overtaking newly crowned 2025 champion Alex Palou in the final laps to clinch the win for Ed Carpenter Racing (ECR).

A Strategic Gamble Pays Off

Rasmussen and his team played their cards right by banking on tire advantage over track position. When a brief late-race caution came out after a light sprinkle of “sunny rain,” Rasmussen pitted early for fresh tires, restarting in seventh place. That decision set the stage for a dramatic 28-lap sprint to the finish.

Speaking after the win, Rasmussen said:
“We were talking about it before the race. If there were a late caution, we wanted to go with new tires because there was such an advantage.”

The Climb to Victory

Rasmussen wasted no time after the restart. He first cleared his teammate Alexander Rossi, then boldly passed Josef Newgarden, one of the best oval racers in the field. From there, he quickly dispatched Scott McLaughlin and set his sights on Palou, who had looked poised to add yet another win to his dominant season.

With 15 laps remaining, Rasmussen made his move and powered past Palou to take the lead. From that moment on, he controlled the pace, gradually extending the gap and crossing the finish line nearly two seconds ahead of the champion.
