The Rivian R1T is a pioneer in the market for all-electric pickup trucks. Built by startup automaker Rivian, it offers impressive acceleration, a variety of range options and cargo-carrying features that aren’t available on other trucks.
The Rivian R1T is a midsize pickup truck that is available in one body style: a five-seat crew cab with a 4-foot-6-inch bed. It features a front truck and an innovative “gear tunnel” between the cab and the bed. The tunnel, accessed via fold-down doors at each end, can house specially designed modules such as Rivian’s slide-out kitchen.
Rivian claims its trucks can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3 seconds, and it can tow as much as 11,000 pounds when properly equipped. The company offers three battery packs, with ranges varying from 260 to 400-plus miles on a single charge. It can be recharged from a variety of sources, including Level 2 home charging stations and public DC fast-charging networks.
Rivian’s R1T pickup truck is currently offered in one trim level, but it has been available in several models since its debut. The base Rivian R1T Explore model, which debuted when the truck was first introduced, has been discontinued; however, the top-of-the-line Rivian R1T Launch Edition is still available at some dealerships. This truck can be outfitted with various drivetrain and battery pack options. Due to incomplete crash test data, it is not currently scored in our full-size pickup trucks ranking.
