Lucid Gravity: An Exciting Entry into the EV SUV Market Set to Debut at L.A. Auto Show
Lucid Motors’ Upcoming Gravity SUV Nears Debut and Late 2024 Release
Lucid Motors has taken a significant step forward in the development of its eagerly anticipated Gravity SUV, which is scheduled for a grand unveiling in November at the L.A. Auto Show. The company has initiated road testing of the Gravity on public roads across the United States.
Lucid’s Gravity has been a topic of intrigue since its initial teaser in November, and while the company had showcased an uncovered version of the vehicle towards the end of last year, the latest images reveal it swathed in a space-themed camouflage, leaving much of the vehicle’s specifics shrouded in mystery.
What we do know is that the Gravity will offer seating for up to seven occupants and incorporate a fresh iteration of the Glass Cockpit, equipped with the latest Lucid UX operating system. Promising a unique blend of luxury and performance, Lucid claims that the Gravity will deliver driving dynamics that rival sports cars and superior electric driving range compared to other EV SUVs in the current market.
Nonetheless, specific performance figures are currently limited to Lucid’s promises, and we eagerly await further details. It is expected that the Gravity will share power options with the Air sedan, offering a range of three power levels, spanning from 480 horsepower to a breathtaking 1050 horsepower in the Grand Touring Performance model.
It’s worth noting that the Gravity is likely to draw inspiration from the Air sedan when it comes to production, mirroring its impressive range figures. The Air, based on EPA estimates, currently boasts the lengthiest range among all electric vehicles available. The Air Grand Touring model, in particular, excels in range, with outstanding performance in our 75-mph fuel-economy test and the ability to add over 300 miles of range in just slightly over 20 minutes when connected to a fast-charging station.
Given the inherent size and weight of an SUV, it’s reasonable to anticipate a slight reduction in range compared to the Air. However, if Lucid’s prior accomplishments are any indication, the Gravity is poised to make a strong impression.
As per a timeline provided by Lucid in November of the previous year, the configurator and order books for the Gravity are anticipated to become accessible sometime in 2023, with production slated to commence in 2024. We’ve contacted Lucid for verification regarding this timeline and will update this story accordingly as soon as we receive a response.
